Quantity Surveyors are an essential part of every project. As a company of Quantity Surveyors and project professionals, we would say that, however it is with good cause. The role of the QS has grown and developed over the decades to become a focal point for supply chain, accounts, resource management, progress reporting as well as traditional measurement and Valuing Works.
Our Quantity Surveyors are comfortable in roles throughout the supply chain and have experience as sub-contractor, contractor and client representatives, as well as working knowledge of most/all standard forms of contract. The QS provides key information to the project leader and commercial lead to enable assessment of the health of any project at a given time.

For TVC, Commercial Management is about having the ability to influence the output of a project via commercial strategies, risk awareness/management and developing ways to forecast potential outputs at each stage of a project.
As well as a strategic thinker, the commercial manager is also able to communicate the commercial risks on a project to all senior level stakeholders within an organisation, succinctly and with demonstrable data.
Part of the value of engaging with a consultancy is about developing the commercial strategy and focus of the team for that exact project and incorporating that strategy into the overall Project Execution Plan. The Quantity Surveyor reports against the project progress, and the Commercial Manager reports against the commercial strategy.
As well as working on single projects, our commercial managers are well versed in working within portfolio scenarios where clients have multiple projects ongoing at any one time and need holistic reporting derived from each projects specific outputs, which ties into business budgets. Risk management forms a significant part of our Commercial Management support, and TVC can provide assistance with risk reviews, workshops, tracking and general management. Each project should have a live risk register with the proper level of diligence taken to assess risks on a regular basis. TVC have experience of quantifying risk for both cost and schedule impact to feed into forecasted costs to complete and budget management.
